Congratulations!
You've graduated and now you are on your own. One of more of the following
probably apply to you:
- You are no longer a full time student in high school, college or
graduate school and therefore (in most cases) you are also no longer
eligible to remain on your parents health insurance plan as a dependent and
don't have any health insurance..
- Unless you got a job offer with benefits that started immediately, you
will need some health insurance to protect you between now and the time,
your new health insurance benefits start.
- You are on a budget and don't want to spend anymore than you need to on
insurance but you want quality coverage from an "A" rated national
carrier that will really cover you in an emergency should you get really
sick or hurt and give you the ability to go to any doctor or hospital
anywhere in the country

- coverage for the exact length of time you need it from 30 days to 365
days at a time. If the time you selected to be covered expires and you need
additional coverage, if you have not submitted claims, simply get another
policy.
- an easy painless application process with just three health questions to
determine whether you qualify. If you honestly answer "no" to the questions,
you automatically
qualify. You can apply on-line and be covered in as little as 24 hours or
via fax or snail mail and be covered as soon as the day after the
postmarked date.
- peace of mind you get from knowing you are insured with a 100+ year old
company providing health insurance to Americans
- full major medical coverage with standard lifetime maximums of $2million
per person with a $5million dollar option available on the more popular 6
month plan. This includes full inpatient hospitalization benefits including
intensive care and surgery as well as full out-patient benefits including
doctors office visits, prescription drugs, diagnostics, ambulance, ER and
more! There are NO GAPS and NO UNPLEASANT SURPRISES like you get with a
quasi scam plan, limited benefit plan, hospital surgical plan or discount
plan.
- a smart plan design that saves you money by excluding coverage for
pre-existing conditions and for preventative/wellness benefits. Instead
anything new that you have not seen a doctor for within the past year is
eligible to be covered. If you have a minor pre-existing condition like
allergies or high blood pressure and can handle paying for medications
yourself, as long as you can still answer "no" to the health questions, you
qualify. Not including coverage for an annual physical and instead covering
doctors visits that are medically necessary only saves you a lot of money
but gives you protection when you are sick and need it.
Helpful Tips:
- When applying on-line be sure to be consistent with the way you enter
your name throughout the entire application. If you started out using just a
first and last name, don't offer a middle name or middle initial , even if
you are asked for it later on in the application or the application may not
go through.
- The best value is a plan that will cover your from 30 days to 184
days paid for with a single payment as you save about 30% on all the
premiums if you pay upfront with a check or credit card than if you pay
monthly. Additionally, the average premium cost is more expensive if you
select more than 184 days.
- You can compare plans and rates using the calendar option or simply
selecting the number of days you'll need coverage for and by selecting
monthly payments or single payments on the first screen. (If you need
coverage for a year, getting a second six month plan after the first one
runs out will give you better protection for less cost than a 12 month plan
will -- and paying for both with a single payment instead of monthly will
provide substantial additional savings.
- There are no prorated refunds on policies paid with the single payment
options so keep that in mind. With the monthly payment option you are
covered month to month and can cancel at any time.
- If you choose 80/20 or 50/50 coinsurance, you'll be sharing 20% or 50%
of the next $20,000 of medical bills after your deductible is satisfied (or
$4000 or $10,000) on the plan that provides coverage for up to a year--
instead of sharing 20% or 50% of only $10,000 of medical bills after your
deductible is met, as is required on the six month plan which would total
only $2000 or $5000 in additional to your deductible.
